Chai Tea is one of my favourite autumn drinks, and is a really nice alternative if you go out to a café in the afternoon but can’t get to sleep if you consume caffeine after 3pm. (Like me!)
The popularity of chai tea has really caught on, and there are heaps of tea brands selling chai teabags these days. However, it’s just as easy to make some yourself at home, when you’ve run out of teabags, or you’re in your trackies and don’t feel like venturing out into the world. (Like me!)
Ingredients
- One regular teabag, like English Breakfast
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon of cloves
- Boiling water
- Milk
- Sugar (Or Sweet ‘n Low!)
Directions
1. Fill a mug half-full with boiling water, and leave the teabag to steep.
2. In a saucepan, warm enough milk to fill the rest of the mug over a low heat.
3. Add the cinnamon, ginger and cloves, stirring well.
4. Remove the milk from the heat and pour into your mug.
5. Add sugar if you want it extra sweet.
You can also use frothy milk if you want to recreate the kind of chai latte that they serve in cafes. I love drinking this with my favourite Anna ginger biscuits from Sweden.
Ginger is one of my favourite things to use in food, especially gingerbread, with which I am obsessed! It’s also really good for you, boasting a range of health benefits including helping with upset stomachs, possessing anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties, and aiding digestion and cholesterol levels.
So gingerbread is a health food then, right?
